The Longfellow, a troubled bridge.

July 22nd, 2007
I took these night shots of workers replacing steel ties on the Longfellow Bridge earlier this month, a couple of days before state officials closed one of the bridge’s sidewalks. 700 ties have been replaced so far, but the beautiful old bridge is in very bad shape and complete restoration will take years and hundred$ of million$.

Now they are saying that the project won’t start before 1010 (because of lack of funding). :(

Above: Officials are certain that the Longfellow will not collapse; crews, however, have been working under the bridge since August.

Above: The Red Line treats commuters to a lovely view of Boston as the train crosses the Charles River over the Longfellow. Approximately 100,000 commuters ride this subway from Cambridge into Boston every day. Photo credits: *, **, ***.

And forever and forever,
As long as the river flows,
As long as the heart has passions,
As long as life has woes;

The moon and its broken reflection
And its shadows shall appear,
As the symbol of love in heaven,
And its wavering image here. [*]
