The city is going to be wicked busy this weekend with two major parades. Bunker Hill Day parade, in Charlestown, commemorating the crucial 1775 battle against the British during the American Revolution.
And the 2008 Boston Pride parade; the theme this year is Sustaining Our Community, Conserving Our World.

Stoneholm Building

The Stoneholm sits on a hill in Brookline. It was built in 1907 and has been noted as one of the pearls of Baroque architecture in Greater Boston.
The construction followed the trend of apartment buildings in vogue between 1890 and 1920 in the Back Bay and also in Harvard Square, Cambridge.Continue reading » | Stoneholm Building

The Berkeley

The Berkeley Building at 420 Boylston, in the Back Bay. This Beaux-Arts style building was built in 1906. It features a steel frame clad in ornate glazed terracotta, glass and copper.
The building, located between the Public Garden and Copley Square, has one of the most festive façades in Boston. Its designer, Constant Despradelle, was a professor at MIT.

Marriott’s Custom House

In 1915 a 496-foot tower was added to the old Custom House making it the tallest building in Boston for 49 years. When custom officials moved to the Tip O'Neill building in 1986, the Custom House was declared surplus property; it remained unoccupied for 14 years before Marriott converted it into an 84 room hotel.

A national historic landmark and one of the finest basilicas in North America. It was designed in the Venetian Gothic style and completed in 1875 for a congregation founded in 1669.Below: The campanile, on the western end of the church, is 246 feet tall and houses a 2020 lb bell. The Longfellow, a troubled bridge.

I took these night shots of workers replacing steel ties on the Longfellow Bridge earlier this month, a couple of days before state officials closed one of the bridge's sidewalks. 700 ties have been replaced so far, but the beautiful old bridge is in very bad shape and complete restoration will take years and hundred$ of million$.
